From Lab to the "Belt and Road", Shandong Polytechnic College Empowers the Manufacturing Powerhouse via Innovative Practice

At the Surgical Robot R&D and Pilot Test Base of Shandong Polytechnic, sophomores Li Peiyuan and Du Zhihan are concentrating on debugging the robotic arm of a multi-port laparoscopic surgical robot. A teacher stands beside the equipment, closely observing the students' operation process, providing guidance and evaluation.

This high-end medical equipment, once monopolized by foreign enterprises, has now been localized in China, effectively advancing the localization process of laparoscopic surgical robots.

Meanwhile, at the Ulaan Mining Area in Mongolia, 4,000 kilometers away, Liu Yong, a teacher from the college, is explaining PLC and touchscreen technology to local employees.

Zhao Qingji, director of the Electromechanical Workshop at Mongolia Xinxin Company who is attending the training, gives a thumbs-up: "Chinese teachers have helped us master the basic knowledge of PLC and touchscreen technology in a short time, improving our skill levels."

From overcoming "chokepoint" technologies to promoting its "vocational education brand" globally, Shandong Polytechnic is writing a new chapter in vocational education serving national strategies, driven by the dual engines of "technological breakthrough" and "vocational education empowerment".

"This fault is caused by motor overload. To avoid the motor operating at full load or near full load for a long time, it is recommended that the actual operating load of the motor does not exceed 80%-90% of the rated load." At the Ulaan Mining Area of Mongolia Xinxin Co., Ltd., Liu Yong, a teacher from Shandong Polytechnic, is conducting a "PLC and Touchscreen Technology" training for enterprise employees. The local employees are concentrating, listening to the explanation and taking notes.

Up to now, Shandong Polytechnic has dispatched 7 batches of personnel, totaling 20 people, to conduct skill training for Mongolian employees in 8 programs including welding technology and PLC & touchscreen technology, with the total number of trained employees exceeding 1,000 person-times.

The college has also selected teacher-student groups to go to workshops for cultural exchange activities, making important contributions to cultivating high-level technical and skilled talents for the local area and promoting connectivity and people-to-people bonds between China and Mongolia.

"After logging into the shared digital twin remote training platform, I feel like I have instantly 'teleported' to the assembly line of an intelligent factory. The robotic arms smoothly grab workpieces, and AGV carts shuttle along the tracks to transport materials accurately—everything is exactly the same as the real scene," said Wang Ziqi, a sophomore majoring in Mechatronics Technology at Shandong Polytechnic, excitedly describing his experience with the digital twin training platform.

Through this digital twin platform, students access a 1:1 replicated intelligent production line. After completing the virtual debugging of the PLC program, they can directly download the program remotely to physical equipment for verification.

"At the moment the debugging is successful, the indicator light of the real equipment turns on—I feel a strong sense of accomplishment!" said student Han Libo.

Teacher Zhang Shiguang introduced that this "cloud debugging + physical verification" model not only saves 60% of training consumables but also allows students from different campuses to jointly complete complex projects through the multi-person online collaboration function, cultivating their team collaboration skills.
